In Smith County alone, approximately 8,000 children spend an average of 36 hours a week in some type of childcare arrangement. Studies have repeatedly shown that high-quality childcare - care that provides a loving, safe, stable and age-appropriate stimulating environment - helps children enter school ready to learn. Yet, many children enter school already behind, and once behind, very few catch up.
Since 1996, Champions', a 501(c)(3), has been the motivating force behind a coordinated community effort to design and implement progressive programs to help at-risk children, parents and childcare providers. From professional teacher trainings and educational materials to individual interventions, Champions' provides teachers and parents with the tools, training and support they need to insure that their children have every opportunity at success.
Champions for Children is a United Way of Tyler/Smith County partner agency and is the ONLY non-profit agency in the area whose primary focus is quality, early childhood education for children birth to five years of age. Champions' provides services to children, families, childcare centers and preschool teachers in Smith County and the 14 surrounding counties in East Texas.
Children are our future! Ensuring that our children are provided with a high quality education is the key to a bright and secure future... our future.
